Gli eventi sportivi sono sempre una ghiotta occasione per pubblicazioni musicali di infima fattura e gli Europei di calcio 2008 non potevano certo esimersi da questa triste tradizione.
La FIFA, per celebrare e promuovere degnamente l’evento ha pensato bene di affidare l’inno ufficiale della più importante competizione calcistica del vecchio continente a Shaggy, un giamaicano trapiantato a New York, cioè quanto di più lontano si possa immaginare dal mondo del calcio, che ha partorito quell’aborto di “Feel The Rush”, un brano prettamente estivo dal sapore giamaicano buono nemmeno come suoneria per il cellulare, il cui video è un tripudio di magliette giamaicane, surf e spiagge tropicali (ma non si parlava di Europa?).

In realtà l’inno non ufficiale della competizione (come lo hanno chiamato gli autori) è stato partorito da quei genialodi del kitsch dei Rednex, un brano intitolato programmaticamente “Football Is Our Religion” che non tradisce le radici tamarro-dance della band: su una cassa anni ’90 gli svedesi ci deliziano con i soliti inserti country a base di banjo e un ritornello davvero da stadio (o da pub dopo una serie di pinte). Il video, semplice ma efficace, è un tripudio di bandiere, cheerleader e tifosi, con un simpatico “omaggio” all’episodio di Zidane-Materazzi del mondiale 2006.
OK, il brano è stupido e piuttosto insipido, ma alla fine meglio questa canzoncina orecchiabile e senza pretese cantata dal trio svedese, piuttosto di quella schifezza da spiaggia rappata dall’ex marine americano.
